The Texas Ballet Theater School Professional Division prepares advanced dancers for a professional ballet career. Students concentrate on perfecting technique and developing artistry through intensive full-day instruction. This comprehensive program provides the experience necessary to transition from student to professional dancer, all while offering personal attention in an intimate, nurturing environment.
"The PD program promotes a disciplined work ethic and encourages personal growth and exploration while pushing students beyond their preconceived limitations. The ultimate goal of the program is to develop strong, well-trained and well-educated artists, who will realize and achieve their full potential as they pursue professional careers." –Charmaine Hunter, Faculty
Professional Division (PD) technique classes are held five mornings a week followed by Pointe, Variations/Repertoire and/or rehearsal. PD students also have the opportunity to attend classes with the TBTS Advanced Level for additional technique training in the evenings and on Saturdays. Classes and rehearsals are taught by TBT School Faculty and Artistic Staff along with guest artists. Dancers are given the valuable experience of working with Artistic Director Ben Stevenson, O.B.E., and his esteemed Artistic Staff.
PD students develop artistic excellence by rehearsing and performing classical and contemporary works throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth community. At the discretion of the Artistic Staff, PD students are given opportunities to understudy and/or perform in TBT productions. Performances have included Dallas DanceFest at Dallas City Performance Hall, Ben Stevenson’s The Nutcracker at Bass Performance Hall, Ben Stevenson’s Dracula at Winspear Opera House and Bass Performance Hall, TBTS Fall Showcase, Youth Dance Festival at W.E. Scott Theatre, TBTS Dallas Performance at Latino Cultural Center, TBTS Spring Performance at Bass Performance Hall and Dance Planet at Booker T. Washington HSPVA.
TBTS does not provide housing for out of town students but will offer recommendations for local apartment complexes and roommates. Students who have not completed high school are expected to continue and complete their formal education.
Admission to the Professional Division:
Participation in the TBT Summer Intensive is highly recommended for prospective students.
Prospective students should begin by attending a live audition or submitting a DVD audition. Dancers may be accepted at this point, or in many cases, will be asked to attend the Summer Intensive or a follow up audition at the TBTS studios for further consideration.
