Paul Adams, a native of Richardson, comes from a family of dancers, including an uncle and his sister. After training at the Ballet Academy of Texas in Coppell, Mr. Adams joined Texas Ballet Theater. Favorite ballets include Ben Stevenson’s Dracula and Laila and the Swan, and Glen Tetley’s Voluntaries. This is his tenth season with the Company.
Where are you from?
I was born in Arkansas but moved to Texas when I was 6. I grew up in Richardson.
When did you begin dancing?
When I was 7 years old.
Why did you begin dancing?
I followed my sister into it. My uncle also danced ballet through high school.
When did you join Texas Ballet Theater?
What is your favorite ballet to see?
I love Dracula, it’s such an eerie ballet.
What is your favorite ballet to perform/what is your favorite role you have performed?
I really enjoyed performing Glen Tetley’s Voluntaries.
What surprised you the most about being a professional dancer?
How easy it is to get out of shape over the summer.
What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
When I retire from dancing, I plan on obtaining my CPA.
What outdoor activities do you enjoy?
I backpack, flyfish, hunt, golf and take walks with my dogs and wife Elizabeth.
Do you have a favorite sports team? If so, who?
I love the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers.
What kind of music do you like best?
I enjoy country and classic rock.
What’s your least favorite part of getting ready for a performance?
The waiting game. I have to keep myself busy until I get on stage.
