A native of Fort Worth, Katelyn Rhodes began her training at North Central School of Ballet and Trinity Valley School of Ballet. She continued training at Texas Ballet Theater School and Texas Christian University, where she was a Nordan Fine Arts scholar. Since joining Texas Ballet Theater in 2013, Ms. Rhodes has enjoyed performing roles such as the Lead Flower in Ben Stevenson’s The Nutcracker, the Summer Fairy in Cinderella, and the Rooster Girl in Christopher Bruce’s Rooster. Ms. Rhodes has also enjoyed performing in Ben Stevenson’s Romeo and Juliet, Swan Lake, and Dracula, George Balanchine’s Serenade and Rubies, Jirí Kylián’s Petite Mort, Harald Lander’s Études, Glen Tetley’s Voluntaries, Ohad Naharin’s Minus 16, and Christopher Wheeldon’s DGV©: Danse à Grande Vitesse. This is Ms. Rhodes’ fifth season with the company.

I was 3 years old when I took my first ballet class
Why did you begin dancing?
My mom enrolled me in ballet so I could burn off some extra toddler energy

What is your favorite ballet to see?
Romeo and Juliet
What is your favorite ballet to perform/what is your favorite role you have performed?
Ben Stevenson’s Swan Lake will forever be my favorite classical ballet to perform, but as of last season Christopher Wheeldon’s Danse à Grande Vitesse became my favorite contemporary ballet I’ve performed.
What surprised you the most about being a professional dancer?
It never gets easier.

Chocolate milk and Netflix
Do you enjoy teaching or choreographing?
I’ve never officially choreographed anything, but growing up I would always put on little performances with my younger siblings. And whenever I hear a piece of music I like I am always choreographing to it in my head.
What other talents do you have besides dancing?
I’ve been playing piano since I was eight years old and I’m currently attempting to learn calligraphy.
What is your favorite local attraction/favorite thing to do in DFW?
I love going to the annual Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.
Do you have a favorite sports team? If so, who?
I will always be a Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers fan.
If you could drive any car, what would it be?
Aston Martin DBS V12
If you could have a vacation home, where would it be?
Somewhere near the Great Smoky Mountains.
What would your best friends say about you?
Probably that I’m funny, detail-oriented, and super organized.
What is your favorite part of a performance?
I love being with my coworkers backstage and the camaraderie that comes with being a part of a production together. From hanging out in between shows to giving each other nervous or excited glances in the wings, the people I dance with are what make performing fun for me.
