Ruth Langill, originally from Sacramento, California, trained at Capitol Ballet Center under the direction of Stuart Carroll and Sharon Newton. She attended several summer intensives on scholarship, including those at State Street Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet and Texas Ballet Theater. Last season she performed with Texas Ballet Theater in Romeo and Juliet, The Nutcracker and Swan Lake, as well as in George Balanchine’s Serenade. She is in her third season with Texas Ballet Theater.

I started taking ballet lessons when I was 12

Why did you begin dancing?
I was obsessed with it. There wasn’t anything I wanted more than to dance.

What is your favorite ballet to see?
Romeo and Juliet

What is your favorite ballet to perform/what is your favorite role you have performed?
Serenade is my favorite ballet I have performed so far

What surprised you the most about being a professional dancer?
How much effort it takes to do character roles.

What is your most memorable vacation?
Camping in Yosemite with my family.

What outdoor activities do you enjoy?
Nature walks

When you have that connection with the audience
